Japanese-Style Croquette

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces ground beef
  • 21 ounces potatoes
  • 4 ounces onion
  • 1 tablespoon salad oil
  • a little salt
  • a little pepper
  • 1 quart water
  • 2 cups salad oil for deep frying

batter:

  • 1 1/4 ounces flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 ounces bread crumbs
Step 1

Pour the water into a pan and add the potatoes. Boil for 30 minutes. After boiling, peel the potatoes. Mash them and cool for more than 20 minutes.

Chop the onion. Heat the 1 tablespoon salad oil in a frying pan over a medium flame and sear the onion. After it becomes clear, add the ground beef. Sear until the ground beef changes color. Remove from the heat and cool for more than 20 minutes.

Mix the mashed potatoes, seared beef and onion, salt and pepper in a big bowl.

Form into 8 balls, and flatten into patties.

Lightly coat the patties with the flour in a pan.

Beat the egg in a bowl and coat the patties with the egg.

Then coat well with the bread crumbs in a separate pan.

Heat the oil to 350 °F and deep-fry the patties on each side 1 minute 30 seconds until golden brown.

Korokke

Remove and drain on a rack. Serve the patties.

Korokke is very popular and is usually served with Worcestershire sauce.
