Put the rice cake, sugar and water in a microwave-proof container. Cover lightly with a plastic wrap and cook for 2 minutes at a 500-watt setting.

Remove from the microwave and mix.

Put the potato starch in a small container. Place the rice cake mixture over it. Let it cool off a little.

When cool, sprinkle the potato starch lightly over it and cut in half with a knife.

Form the mashed sweetened red bean paste into 2 balls.

Wet your fingers with water. Roll out the two rice cakes and potato starch. Place a mashed sweetened red bean paste ball in the middle of each one. Wrap the rice cake around each ball to form the rice cake filled with red bean paste (daifuku).
