Simmered Tofu & Ground Meat with Curry Powder


  • 1 block of tofu
  • 200 g ground pork or beef
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 15 g ginger
  • 3 tablespoons curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • a little salt
  • 150 ml chicken stock
  • 1000 ml water
  • 1 tablespoon salad oil
  • 2 teaspoons potato starch (katakuriko)
  • 2 teaspoons water (for dissolving potato starch)
Step 1

Chop the garlic cloves and ginger into fine pieces.

Cut the tofu block in half lengthwise, then cut each half across 3 times. Finally, place the knife halfway down the side of the block and slice across to form 16 bite-size pieces.

Pour the 1000 ml of water into a pan and add the tofu. Boil for ten minutes on medium heat. Remove and drain the tofu in a colander.

Heat the oil in a frying pan or a pan on medium flame. Add the chopped garlic and ginger and sear. Add the ground meat and sear until it changes color.

Add the sugar, curry powder, salt and soy sauce and mix.

Pour the chicken stock into the pan and bring to a boil.

Add the tofu and boil for two minutes.

Dissolve the potato starch in the 2 teaspoons of water. Add the dissolved potato starch to the frying pan or the pan. Stir a few times until the mixture becomes creamy.

The curry powder suits tofu and ground meat very well and is delicious. It is a little spicy, but easy to eat.
