- 5 1/4 ounces glutinous rice
- or regular rice
- 2/3 ounce soybean flour (kinako)
- 1/2 ounce sugar
- 2/3 cup water (if using glutinous rice) or 5/6 cup (if using regular rice)
step 1:
Wash the rice. Drain the water and leave the rice in the colander 1 hour to completely remove all the water. Add the 2/3 cup or 5/6 cup water to the rice cooker pot. Switch on the rice cooker.
step 2:
After it's cooked, put the hot steamed rice into a large bowl. Mash it until it reaches a coarse texture.
step 3:
Form into 8 barrel-shaped patties.
step 4:
Place the soybean flour and sugar on a plate. Mix them. Place a pattie on the plate. Coat well. Do the same for the remaining three.

Ohagi is a typical Japanese sweet that has rice wrapped in anko (sweetened red bean paste). Kinako-ohagi generally has anko inside, but this recipe does not have anko and is characterized by a light sweetness that is not too strong.
