- Japanese: Tofu no teriyaki
- u.s.
- metric
ingredients:
- 1 block tofu
- 1 tablespoon salad oil
teriyaki sauce:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar, sweet sake for seasoning (mirin) or honey
- 2 tablespoons sake or water
step 1:
Make the teriyaki sauce in a bowl.
step 2:
Cut the tofu in half lengthwise from the top. Wrap each tofu half in a paper towel. Heat in a microwave oven for 2 minutes to remove the water.
step 3:
Heat the oil in a frying pan on medium heat and sear the top, bottom and the two long sides of each tofu block for about 1 to 2 minutes each.
step 4:
Reduce to a low flame, and add the teriyaki sauce. Simmer for 3 minutes while dipping the four sides of the tofu into the sauce.
comment:
Teriyaki sauce is commonly used for yellowtail or chicken; using it for tofu is unique. The tofu itself has a light flavor, so the teriyaki sauce makes the tofu delicious.
