Kushikatsu is a famous Japanese finger food. It is made by alternately placing slices of pork chops and negi (long green onions) or small pieces of onions onto skewers and then breading and deep-frying them in oil in the same way as tonkatsu (deep-fried breaded pork cutlets). In most of Japan, kushikatsu is eaten with Worcestershire sauce. Around Nagoya, located in the central region of Japan, kushikatsu may be dipped in miso-flavored sauce. Kushikatsu goes well with beer and other alcohol and is served at izakaya (Japanese style pubs) and restaurants specializing in kushikatsu. Some believe that kushikatsu has been eaten in downtown Tokyo since the late Meiji period (1868-1912). If you are in Japan, please try kushikatsu. In addition to the restaurants mentioned above, it is usually sold at supermarkets, tonkatsu stores, or butcher shops.
