It is a well-known fact that curry originated in India. It is spicy and soup-like. However, Japanese curry differs very much from Indian curry because it includes flour which makes the sauce creamy. Japanese curry ingredients usually include meat, onions, potatoes, carrots, water and solid or powder curry seasoning. When serving, pour the sauce over steamed rice. Japanese, from children to the elderly, almost always like curry and rice. According to government agency statistics, Japanese eat curry and rice three times a month on average. It is not at all an exaggeration to say that curry and rice is a national food of the Japanese. Many food companies sell various kinds of solid curry blocks because it is easy and popular to use in home cooking. Curry blocks come in hot, medium or mild taste. However, retort pouch curry (boiled in a bag) is much easier to prepare than solid curry blocks because you only have to boil the pouch in hot water and then pour the curry over steamed rice. Recently, retort pouch curry has become of higher quality and is delicious.
