I guess you have probably eaten or heard about Yakitori - grilled chicken pieces on a bamboo stick. Yakitori is a very popular food in Japan. The pieces used are chicken thigh, breast, skin, gizzards, and meatballs made from ground chicken. The seasoning is sweetened soy sauce (tare) or salt (shio). Yakitori using sweetened soy sauce has a rich taste, and that using salt has a simple taste. You can choose whichever you prefer. Both of them go together very well with alcohol. One of the most popular yakitori is called tori, which uses only chicken thigh or breast. If you have never eaten tori, please just try it once. You will probably like it. Yakitori is eaten at yakitori speciality restaurants and izakaya (Japanese-style pubs) and also it is often sold at grocery stores.
