I think that there are probably not many countries where octopus is eaten. In some cases, it may be prohibited by religion. Although many people have never eaten it, Japanese have eaten it since long ago. In Japanese cuisine, it is often used as in ingredient for sashimi, sushi, vinegared octopus and boiled octopus dishes. In addition takoyaki (octopus dumplings) is quite popular. Takoyaki is baked balls of flour dough, boiled octopus and green onion. Takoyaki sauce (based on Worcestershire sauce) is poured over them. Some Japanese eat takoyaki at meals, but there are more people who eat it as a snack. Because octopus is hidden inside the balls, people eating it for the first time may not know that octopus is an ingredient, and be surprised at how delicious it is. Therefore, takoyaki is recommended for those who want to try octopus for the first time. Takoyaki originated in Osaka and spread throughout the Japan. Because takoyaki can be bought anywhere, why not try it when you are in Japan?
