Fresh peaches sold in Japanese supermarkets are almost always white, and yellow peaches are only found in cans. The white peach is the most famous breed in Japan, and it is round and about 230 g to 400 g. The skin is pink and the fruit is whiteish. It is peeled and usually eaten raw. It contains a lot of fruit juice and there is no sour taste. When eaten, the peach sweetness spreads in the mouth with a soft juicy taste. The white peach is also used in juices, jellies, cans, and so on. White peaches are sold at supermarkets from July to September. The birthplace of the white peach is Okayama Prefecture in western Japan. The main production areas, however, are Yamanashi, Fukushima and Nagano prefectures, all in eastern Japan.
