Fushimi inari-zushi
Fushimi Inari Taisha (shrine) in Kyoto
Fox, a messenger of God in the Taisha (shrine)
Have you ever heard of inari-zushi? Inari-zushi is usually cylindrical, but this Fushimi inari-zushi is triangular and it means fox's ear. Fushimi Ward in Kyoto is famous for Inari-zushi. There is a Fushimi Inari Taisha (shrine) in Fushimi Ward, and many foreigner tourists visit there. Sushi rice is put into deep-fried tofu pouches (abura-age) which have a sugar and soy sauce taste. This is a very delicious tasting combination.
