Osechi

Ozoni

Otoso

Japanese eat special food during the first three days of the New Year. The food is called traditional osechi and ozoni. Osechi is colorful food which portrays the wish that the coming year will be happy. Most osechi is prepared food because it releases the housewife from having to cook. Osechi usually contains boiled, grilled and vinegared food in a 2 or 3-stage food box. The food in osechi depends on the region and each home. It is sold in luxury Japanese restaurants and department stores. Ozoni is a clear soup which contains one or two rice cakes (omochi) and several ingredients (such as vegetables, chicken, fish paste) and seasoning depending on the region. Otoso (Japanese alcohol) made from sake is drunk in the New Year. Do you feel the celebratory event from the pictures?
