Korokke, from the French word croquette, is a very popular delicious deep-fried food in Japan. It is a cylindrical- or oval-shaped patty made from mixing mashed potatoes with ground beef or pork, and coated with flour, beaten eggs and bread crumbs. It is common to put Worcestershire sauce or ketchup over it. It is eaten with rice for meals, in sandwiches with curry toppings, or for snacks, and is also a standard dish in lunch boxes. Korokke can be cooked at home, and is also sold at supermarkets, convenience stores, and butchers. It is sold frozen or as fresh patties with bread crumbs for deep-frying at home.
