Yakitori
Yakiton is a skewered grilled dish prepared using the yakitori cooking method, with pork as the primary ingredient. Incidentally, yakiton uses bamboo skewers just like yakitori. Yakitori uses chicken as its main ingredient. Yaki means “grill” in Japanese, and ton means “pork” in Japanese. Yakiton is prepared and seasoned in the same manner as yakitori. It consists of bite-sized pieces of pork alone, or alternately skewered with bite-sized pieces of vegetables like negi (long green onions) or sliced onions, then grilled over an open flame and seasoned with salt or a soy sauce-based sauce. Yakiton is less common than yakitori, and like yakitori, it's typically eaten at specialty shops or izakayas (Japanese pubs), or purchased pre-cooked at supermarkets rather than as a home-cooked meal. Yakiton skewers, like yakitori, are finger foods often enjoyed with beer and other alcoholic beverages.
