Frozen type tori no karaage
I understand that “Deep–Fried Chicken Nuggets” often means a dish which is deep-fried chicken which has a coating of mainly herbs, spices and wheat flour. However, “Tori no Karaage” (Japanese-style nuggets) is deep-fried chicken which first has been soaked in soy sauce, garlic and ginger and then coated with either flour or katakuriko (potato starch). The dish is very popular mainly among men in Japan. It is often eaten as a meal with steamed rice or as a snack with beer. It is almost always served at Japanese bistros and izakaya (Japanese pubs) and it often eaten at home. When one doesn’t have time to cook or clean up an oily mess or it’s just too hot, prepared tori no karaage and frozen types can be bought easily in convenience stores, supermarkets, and at butchers and speciality shops. It can even be cooked easily at home by dusting karaage powder on chicken pieces and deep-frying them. Of course, we have also posted recipes on our website. Tori no karaage is very delicious whether it is served warm or cold. Some Japanese are addicted to it. It is no exaggeration anymore to say that it is a national food. Please try it if it sounds delicious to you!
