The catch of Sanma (Pacific saury) increases in the autumn. The body length of this slender fish is about 30 cm. (12 in.) to 40 cm. (16 in.). Each home in Japan is generally equipped with a fish grill on which long size fish such as sanma can be cooked. Grilled sanma is a representative dish in autumn in Japan. The grilled fish is usually eaten with grated daikon (Japanese radish) over which soy sauce or ponzu sauce has been poured. The grilled fish has just the right amount of fat and is delicious. Fresh sanma can be eaten as sashimi. It is a rich source of EPA and DHA, and is a healthy food. Even if it were not healthy, I would want to eat it because it is so delicious.
